The zoo has been continuously contributing to the conservation of endangered animal species. Across Europe, there are almost 400 different animal species participating in the European Endangered Species Conservation. Amongst them is the Rothchild’s giraffe and other species, living at the Lithuanian Zoo.
For several years now, the zoo has been successfully participating in projects to increase the number of endangered species in Lithuania, such as European pond turtles, Eurasian eagle-owls and lynxes. Zoos play a very important role in contributing to the preservation of rare animal species, since rare animals in the wild may become extinct if certain measures are not taken.
